Hi TJL Families!
Thank you for visiting our TJL Webpage!
I am so happy to share that TJL has been selected as the "SCMEA 2022 Elementary School of Musical Excellence"! A huge congratulations to our entire TJL music department, students, and families on earning this outstanding achievement! We couldn't be more proud!!
A big congratulations to our students who participated in SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Association) All-County Band and Orchestra concert! After three four-hour rehearsals, and a lot of practice at home, their concert was a huge success. The concert featured the best 5th and 6th grade musicians across Long Island and we were very fortunate to have 15 students selected to participate this year. Congratulations to Mr. Rinaldi, Ms. Kassinger, Mrs. Ferraro and their students (listed below) who were selected to participate!

Report Cards
Report cards for the second trimester have been posted to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Just a reminder that TJL has gone "paperless" for our report cards. With this, we did not backpack home hard copies of the report cards with our students. Our PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) event was so much fun! Our theme this year was "TJL Is Reading For The Gold" and we celebrated the Winter Olympics to achieve our reading goals. We had an amazing kickoff and our weekly activities and spirit days brought smiles to everyone's faces. Click here to view a video of our kickoff event! Thank you to our amazing TJL PTA and TJL Staff for helping to make this event so special!
A big congratulations to our students for achieving their collective goal of reading 100,000 minutes! You've earned the Principal's Challenge! I hope you had a fun time doing the Chicken Dance with me!

In conjunction with PARP, thank you to everyone who donated books for our Book Fairies drive and book swap as well!
Our participation in the district wide "P.S. I Love You Day" event went great! Students and staff wore purple each Friday during the month of February to promote unity and spread awareness about the importance of treating yourself and other with kindness and love. On Friday, February 18th, we honored this day by providing students with additional activities such as listening to a shared read aloud (made by one of our HS students) and sharing messages of kindness! What a great way to connect our schools and bring our Harborfields Family together!

TJL was honored to be part of the district wide Black History Month Celebration on Thursday, February 3rd! Along with student performers from our other schools, student participants from TJL were on stage and did an amazing job reciting a shared poem that was written by the members of our No Place For Hate Committee. Our students also sang a song with students from Washington Drive as well. It was such a wonderful evening! We couldn't be more proud of our students and staff!

Our students have been having such a great time utilizing our new library! To share a little bit more about this new space, and all that it has to offer, members of our Tornado News Team worked with some of our TJL students to create their own news story. Please click on the link below to see the video! A big thank you to Mr. Ambrosio and the Tornado News Team for working with us and for making this news story so special!
A big congratulations to our TJL PTA Reflections Contest participants and award recipients! Student participants and winners were honored during our Reflections Ceremony on February 1st!

The Results Are In!
We had an amazing turnout of 5th grade participants who submitted artwork for our Yearbook Cover Contest. After a very difficult voting process, the results are in for our Yearbook Cover Contest winners! Congratulations to the following winners along with all of the students who submitted an entry!
Winner of the Front Cover - Diana Cavallo
Winner of the Back Cover - Marianna Hansen Niemiec
Winner of the Inside Front Cover - Elise Larson
Winner of the Inside Back Cover - Marianna Cortes
In music news, our Grade 4 concert was a huge success! Like with our Grade 5 concert, our 4th graders performed live on the Harborfields High School stage. The orchestra and chorus performance groups played about four songs each and they didn't disappoint! The concert was a definite crowd pleaser, for sure! We are so proud of our students and their teachers, Mrs. Ferraro and Ms. Mara, for this outstanding performance!
Please continue to check out our page on Twitter to see some recent "snapshots" of lessons and activities that our students have been doing. We’re so proud of them! Our handle is @TJL_Elementary.
Also, please make sure to check out the list of ‘Upcoming Events and Activities’ listed above and don’t forget to check the ‘TJL Virtual Backpack’ for digital copies of letters and flyers that are backpacked home.
Thank you to all our students, staff and community members for your continued support each day!
All the best,
Principal Williams :)
